TECHNICAL
Door core
The core of a fifire door is fundamental to controlling the spread of fifire. Materials used in the manufacture of a fifire door have
to undergo extreme conditions at independent laboratories where they are subjected to controlled tests so that we can all
feel confifident.
The primary task of the core to is to resist fifire penetration. Once any flflames do begin to appear, the core must continue to
resist the fifire and burn at a slower rate.
Intumescent strip
Intumescent strips expand when heated
to create a seal between the door and
the frame thereby controlling the
transfer of smoke and noxious fumes
while restricting the air movement and
oxygen supply.
Vital to the control of fifire,
intumescent strips must be of the
correct specifification and must be
maintained in fifirst class condition. They
are usually fifitted after decoration to
avoid overpainting or varnishing which
would degrade their value so they are
generally supplied loose for fifitting on
site which must be by an experienced
installer.
Glazing options
Any glazing in a fifire door must perform
equal to the door core. It’s not just the
type and thickness of the glass that
matters, the size of each piece of glass,
the glazing gasket and the beads that
hold it in place are all critical to the
integrity of the door and must be fifitted
according to the test evidence. Gener
ally, glazing will be factory applied to
ensure full compliance.
Common Glazing Designs
Actual cut out sizes are shown, visible glass will be approx 15mm less on all
sides. Actual cut out height dimensions will be determined by the overall
height of the door.

Steel fifire-rated doors are infifilled with fifireproof board providing better fifire and
heat insulation performance. The fifireproof expansion strip at three sides of the
door leaf effectively block the spread of smoke. Door leaf can be fifitted with
fifireproof glazing and anti-panic functions when required, and is widely used in
the fifire areas of construction zones.
